Lexus GX 460 Upgrade Guide: CarPlay, Cameras, Audio and More
The Lexus GX 460 upgrades we install most often have one thing in common: they modernize the truck without touching its factory look. The GX has the bones to run for another 200,000 miles. The cabin tech is what shows its age, and every fix in this guide plugs into what Lexus already built.
We are the US branch of Beat-Sonic Japan, and we have been building vehicle specific electronics for the car community since 2007. Every kit below uses OEM style connectors. No wire cutting, no permanent changes, and nearly every product has an install video on our Beat-Sonic YouTube channel.
Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto on the factory screen
A Lexus Apple CarPlay retrofit is the single most requested GX 460 upgrade, and for good reason. The factory infotainment was designed before smartphone projection existed, so navigation, music, and messages all feel a generation behind the phone in your pocket.
Our S-Connect kits add wireless CarPlay and Android Auto to the screen your GX already has. There are three versions depending on your model year and whether your truck has factory navigation:
- LGVIF-CB4W wireless CarPlay kit for the 2014-2021 GX 460 with factory navigation. It also fits the 2016-2018 Toyota Land Cruiser; the 2019-2021 Land Cruiser uses the LGVIF-CB6W, which is linked in our CarPlay buying guide.
- LGVIF-CB3W wireless CarPlay kit for the 2014-2021 GX 460 without factory navigation. The GX 460 application uses an additional screen bypass harness, an included configuration detail you can confirm on the product page.
- LGVIF-CB8W wireless CarPlay kit for the 2010-2013 GX 460 equipped with factory navigation. Owners of these trucks should bookmark our LGVIF-CB8W configuration guide, which walks through the settings that get the most out of the kit.
All three kits keep your factory screen, your factory backup camera, and your steering wheel controls. Your phone connects wirelessly, so it can stay in your pocket or on a charger. S-Connect routes music, navigation, and call audio through the factory Bluetooth by design, so your phone stays paired to the factory system and the audio source on the factory screen stays on Bluetooth Audio. One caveat: the interface does not integrate with the factory rear DVD module, so ask us first if your GX has rear entertainment. The Lexus S-Connect line is approved by Lexus USA, which is not something most aftermarket CarPlay boxes can claim. If you are weighing a wireless CarPlay GX460 kit against a cheaper wired module, our article on wired vs wireless CarPlay breaks down the tradeoffs. The anytime camera: a front view whenever you want it
Search forums and you will see this setup called an anytime camera GX460 mod or a birds eye view install. Let us be direct about what it actually is: a single wide angle front camera you can pull up on the factory screen on demand. It is not a true 360 degree birds eye system with stitched overhead imagery. What it gives you is the view that matters most on this truck, the one directly in front of the bumper that the hood completely hides.
The GX 460 sits high and its hood line is long. Nosing up to a parking block, a curb, a rock on a trail, or a low garage wall means guessing where the bumper ends. With this setup you press a button and see exactly what is down there, any time, not just when a sensor decides to show you.
The system pairs two parts:
- CS11A front camera interface, which feeds video into select 2014-2025 Lexus factory screens.
- BCAM11B universal wide angle front camera, a compact fisheye camera that mounts discreetly up front. The BCAM13 works just as well here if you prefer it.
One honest limit: this setup fits the 2014-2021 GX 460. There is no anytime camera option for the 2010-2013 GX 460.
Off road, the front camera earns its keep on climbs and drop-offs where the hood points at sky and the trail disappears. On pavement, it saves your bumper in tight parking structures. Our article on why you need a front camera covers the daily driving case, and our front camera collection has the full range of options.
Audio upgrades that keep the factory head unit
The GX 460 cabin is quiet and well insulated, which makes the flat factory sound stand out even more. The good news: you do not need to replace the head unit or cut into the harness to fix it.
Our Encore amplifier kits plug in between the factory source and the speakers using OEM style connectors. The Encore Alpha family is the straightforward option, and the ENA-3 series adds a dedicated subwoofer output if you want real bass later. The Encore X family adds built in DSP, tuned through our desktop software on a Windows PC over USB. Each kit ships with an in-house tune already loaded, so most owners never need to open the software.
For the 2014-2021 GX 460 without factory navigation, the ENA-2T3 plug and play amplifier kit is the one to get. For 2014-2021 trucks with factory navigation, a plug and play amplifier kit is coming in 2026. There is no amplifier kit for the 2010-2013 GX 460. You can browse the full amplifiers collection for other vehicles in your garage. If you are not sure which family fits how you listen, our guide on which Encore amplifier is right for you walks through the decision in plain terms.
Sharper throttle response with the ShiftPower SP09
If you have ever felt the GX hesitate for a beat when you press the pedal, that is the factory throttle mapping, not the engine. A GX460 throttle controller changes how the pedal signal is delivered so the truck responds the moment you ask.
The ShiftPower SP09 plugs in at the accelerator pedal connector in minutes, with no tools touching the engine. It offers multiple drive modes, from relaxed cruising to sharp response for towing and passing. To be clear, it does not add horsepower. It removes the delay between your foot and the throttle, which is what most drivers actually want. Read more in our explainer on what a throttle controller does, or browse the full ShiftPower collection.

Frequently asked questions
Does a CarPlay retrofit void my Lexus warranty, and is it reversible?
Our kits are fully reversible. They connect with OEM style plugs, no wires are cut, and unplugging the kit returns the truck to bone stock. The Lexus S-Connect line is also approved by Lexus USA, which is exactly why many owners of trucks still under warranty choose it over generic modules.
Will my factory backup camera still work after adding CarPlay?
Yes. The LGVIF-CB4W and LGVIF-CB8W keep the factory backup camera, the factory screen, and your steering wheel controls. Shift into reverse and the camera behaves exactly as it did from the factory.
Can I add a front camera without replacing the factory screen?
Yes. That is the whole point of the CS11A interface. It feeds the BCAM11B or BCAM13 camera image into the screen your 2014-2021 GX already has, viewable on demand. No new display, no tablet stuck to the dash.
How hard are these upgrades to install myself?
Most owners with basic hand tools handle these in an afternoon. The ShiftPower is the easiest, plugging in at the pedal connector. CarPlay and camera kits involve trim removal but no cutting. Most products have a step by step install video on our YouTube channel, and our La Mirada shop can do it for you by appointment, with most installs finished the same day they are booked.
Should I go wireless or wired for CarPlay on the GX 460?
Our GX 460 kits are wireless, so your phone connects automatically when you get in. Wireless is the right call for a daily driver since there is no cable to fish out on every trip. If you prefer plugging in for charging, you can still use a charger normally while CarPlay runs wirelessly.
