Which Beat-Sonic Encore Amplifier Is Right for You?
Your factory car audio system was built to meet a price point, not deliver premium sound. If your music sounds flat, lacks bass, or never gets loud enough, you are not alone.
The good news is that upgrading your car audio does not require replacing your head unit or cutting wires. A plug and play amplifier can dramatically improve your system in a simple, clean install. At Beat-Sonic, our entire Encore amplifier lineup is designed around one goal: make your factory system sound better without adding complexity. Just plug it in and hear the difference.
With multiple options available, the key question is simple: which amplifier is right for your vehicle and your goals? This guide breaks it down.
The Beat-Sonic Encore Amplifier Lineup: An Overview
The Beat-Sonic Encore lineup includes four plug and play amplifiers, each built for a different type of driver and upgrade path.
We currently offer four amplifiers:
- Encore Alpha 2 (ENA2) & Encore Alpha 3 (ENA3): Our core plug-and-play amps for the widest range of vehicles
- Encore X DSP: Steps up to a factory-tuned DSP unit with deep customization capability
- Encore Sigma Plug and Play Amplifier: Our 8-channel flagship is engineered specifically for Lexus vehicles with premium sound systems
All models use vehicle-specific harnesses for a true plug and play installation. No wire cutting. No permanent modification. Just a clean upgrade that works with your factory system.
Encore Alpha 2 Series (ENA2)
The Encore Alpha 2 Series is our best-selling amplifier because it delivers the most accessible, cost-effective upgrade available for the widest range of vehicles. It runs at 45 watts x 4 channels, is impedance-compatible from 4 to 8 ohms, and connects directly to your factory system via a plug-and-play harness. Applications currently include Toyota, Honda, Subaru, and Nissan. The form factor is compact enough to mount behind most factory radios.
The ENA2 includes RCA inputs so you can add a secondary audio source, a high-definition media player, for example, directly into your vehicle's audio chain. It also features independent front and rear gain adjustments so you can tune the balance to your preference without any additional software or tools. Priced under $300, this amp is for drivers who want noticeably better sound while keeping the factory audio tuning intact. If you like the way your system is balanced but need more clarity, more output, and tighter bass response, the ENA2 is the answer.
One important note: the ENA2 powers on via accessory signal only. In vehicles where the factory radio doesn't provide a traditional accessory power-on signal, certain Chevy models, for example, the ENA3 is the better choice.
Encore Alpha 3 Series (ENA3)
The Encore Alpha 3 Series builds on everything the ENA2 does and adds critical upgrades that matter for drivers planning to expand their audio setup. The ENA3 runs at 50 watts x 4 channels, five more watts per channel than the ENA2. On its own, that difference is subtle. But what makes the ENA3 the recommended choice at its $349 price point is the addition of dedicated subwoofer RCA outputs and a remote wire output built directly into the main harness.
If you're planning to add a powered subwoofer now or in the future, the ENA3 makes that connection completely plug-and-play. No separate line output converter needed. The remote wire is already on the harness. You connect your power sub's RCA and remote wire, and you're done. The ENA3 also adds an auto-sense feature that allows the amplifier to power on from either a speaker signal or a traditional accessory signal. This makes it compatible with vehicles, such as certain Chevy models, where the factory radio communicates via CAN bus signals rather than a traditional accessory power wire.
Vehicle applications for the ENA3 include Toyota, Honda, Subaru, Nissan, select Mazda, Chevy, and Ford. All harnesses are vehicle-specific and plug-and-play.
Updated Harness Design: ENA2 and ENA3
We've also rolled out a redesigned harness for both the ENA2 and ENA3 series. The new harness eliminates the separate ground wire by pulling ground directly from inside the connector, eliminating the need for a chassis ground point. This removes the step of unbolting a 10mm bolt and running a ground wire, making the install faster and cleaner. We also shortened the cable run to eliminate excess slack, and updated the radio-side connector to a single-slot design so there's no confusion about which port to plug into. One connector slot, one correct connection, it's physically impossible to plug it in wrong.
For JBL-equipped Toyota owners: we are developing an adapter that will allow factory JBL volume control to manage an aftermarket powered subwoofer added alongside the ENA2 or ENA3.
Encore X DSP Amplifier
The Encore X DSP Amplifier is a product in a different category entirely. It runs at 45 watts x 4 channels and includes dedicated subwoofer RCA outputs, but what separates it from the Alpha series is the integrated DSP, which we tuned in-car, speaker by speaker, cabin by cabin, for each specific vehicle application. Our sound engineers spent days per vehicle tuning crossovers, frequency response, phase alignment, time delay, and soundstage positioning to optimize performance for that exact car's cabin acoustics and OEM speaker configuration.
The result: the Encore X doesn't just make your car louder, it repositions the soundstage to the front-center of the cabin, delivering a concert-hall listening experience where the music feels like it's playing in front of you rather than from four corners of the vehicle. This is a fundamentally different sonic experience compared to the Alpha series.
Encore X DSP: Vehicle Compatibility and Customization
Because of the vehicle-specific tuning process, Encore X applications are more limited and take longer to develop. Current vehicle coverage includes the Toyota GR86, Subaru BRZ, select 4Runners, the new Tacoma, and the Tundra, with additional applications being added on an ongoing basis. The Encore X is not compatible with factory JBL models and is designed for non-JBL trims only. For the GR86 and BRZ, it supports both base and premium trims due to the shared Subaru-based audio infrastructure.
The Encore X also comes with an extremely powerful companion app for further customization. You can adjust crossovers, slope settings, phase, equalization bands, frequency ranges, time alignment, channel distance and delay, independently across all channels. For most drivers, the factory DSP tune we applied will be exactly what they need. But for audiophiles and shop installers who want to push further, the capability is all there. The Encore X retails at $529.
Due to its larger form factor, the Encore X may not fit behind your factory radio in all vehicles. It's designed to mount under the passenger seat, and the harness is longer than the Alpha series harnesses to accommodate that routing.
Encore Sigma Amplifier: 8-Channel Flagship for Lexus
The Encore Sigma is our 8-channel amplifier engineered specifically for Lexus vehicles with factory premium audio systems. Think of it as two Encore Alpha 3 amplifiers combined into a single unit, 8 channels with independent gain control on every channel, subwoofer RCA outputs, and an auto-sense feature for both speaker signal and accessory power-on. Unlike the Alpha series, the Encore Sigma does not connect behind the factory radio; it connects directly to the factory amplifier, which is typically located in the trunk or under the driver's seat, depending on the Lexus model.
The Encore Sigma is designed for Lexus premium audio system trims. It is not currently planned for Mark Levinson-equipped trims if you have a Mark Levinson system, a solution is still in development. If you have the Lexus premium (non-Mark Levinson) factory audio, the Encore Sigma retains your factory tuning while delivering dramatically cleaner, louder, and more detailed sound reproduction. We are currently testing vehicle compatibility across the Lexus lineup and will be expanding the official application list as validation is completed. Pricing has not yet been announced, but the Sigma will be positioned as a premium product above the Alpha and Encore X range. Keep an eye on our new products collection for the official launch and availability updates.
