How to Add a Front Camera to a 2024+ Toyota Tacoma: Beat-Sonic CS15 + BCAM13 Install Guide
The Toyota Tacoma comes loaded for off-road use, but it doesn't include a front camera from the factory. Parking a truck with a long hood in a tight space, navigating trail obstacles, or simply protecting an aftermarket front lip are all situations where knowing exactly where your front bumper is makes a real difference. The Beat-Sonic CS15 front camera interface combined with the BCAM13 front camera adds that functionality through the factory screen — no head unit replacement, no permanent modifications.
In this install, our team mounts the BCAM13 camera to the front grille of a Toyota Tacoma TRD Sport, routes the cable through the firewall, connects the CS15 interface module behind the factory radio, and programs the system. The whole process is plug-and-play on the interior side. Watch the full install below.
What Is the Beat-Sonic CS15 Front Camera Interface
The CS15 is a plug-and-play front camera interface for select 2022+ Toyota models. It connects behind the factory radio using two vehicle-specific harnesses — connector A on the passenger side and connector B at the center — with one side going to the factory harness and the other to the back of the radio. No wire cutting, no splicing. The module sits behind the head unit secured with the included double-sided tape.
The CS15 provides two RCA camera inputs. One is dedicated to the front camera. The second is an optional input for any additional camera — a blind spot camera, under-vehicle camera for off-roading, hitch camera for towing, or an interior camera. The module also supplies power and ground to the connected cameras through the optional harness, eliminating the need to run a separate power wire to the camera.
A blank switch in the factory dash connects to the CS15 via the included switch harness. Pressing that button cycles through your camera views on the factory screen. The button installs into any available factory blank switch location and pops into place without tools.
If you already have a Beat-Sonic Encore Alpha amplifier installed, the CS15 daisy-chains onto the same factory connector. Both the amplifier and the camera interface share the connection — it doesn't matter which order they connect in, both work simultaneously.
What Is the Beat-Sonic BCAM13 Front Camera
The BCAM13 is Beat-Sonic's latest universal front camera. It features a 160-degree wide-angle fisheye lens, IP67 waterproof construction, and a flatter mounting profile compared to the previous generation BCAM11. The flatter body makes it easier to mount flush to the grille surface and gives more flexibility in positioning. An adjustable angle bracket is included for fine-tuning the camera angle after mounting.
The BCAM13 comes with an extra-long RCA cable harness for a longer reach from the grille to the firewall, and uses smaller intermediate joining connectors that make routing through tight spaces easier. Image quality performs well in low light and handles transitions between shaded and direct sunlight without washing out or going dark — important for a camera that's pointed at the ground in variable lighting conditions while parking or on trail.
The camera is black to blend into the front grille for a clean, understated appearance. For vehicles with a lowered front end or an aftermarket front lip, the BCAM13 serves as an important protection tool — you can see exactly where the bumper ends before making contact with a curb or parking stop.
Mounting the BCAM13 to the Toyota Tacoma
On the Tacoma TRD, the best mounting location for the front camera is at the top center of the front grille opening. Mounting lower on the bumper puts the camera behind the lower bumper overhang, which cuts into the field of view. The top grille position gives the most complete view of the ground directly in front of the truck.
To mount the camera, remove the engine cover plastics to access the underside of the mounting area — the push-tab fasteners pop out easily and the panels lift off. Drill a small pilot hole at the desired mounting point, then open it to the appropriate size to pass the camera cable through. The camera cable gets routed through the drilled hole and zip-tied to factory wiring under the hood to keep it secure. Always follow existing factory wire runs — Toyota chose those routing paths for a reason and using them keeps the install clean and protected.
Run the cable along factory wire harnesses toward the firewall. The firewall has an existing rubber grommet where other wires enter the cabin. Pierce through the grommet and pull the cable into the interior, following the same technique used in any firewall cable routing — wrap the wire end with electrical tape before pulling to help it pass through cleanly. Route the cable along the factory wire channels under the dash panel toward the back of the radio.
An intermediate connector in the BCAM13 harness is left accessible near the firewall. If the camera ever needs to be swapped out or the mounting angle adjusted, that connector makes it easy to disconnect and reconnect without disturbing the interior routing.
Installing the CS15 Interface Behind the Radio
To access the back of the factory radio on the Tacoma, remove the center console surround panel and the four 10mm bolts holding the radio in place. The radio pulls straight out toward you. Lay a thick towel on the center console before pulling the radio out to protect the interior trim.
The CS15 harness has two connectors labeled A and B. Connector A splits the passenger-side factory harness — one end to the factory harness, the other to the radio. Connector B does the same at the center connector. Both need to be pushed in completely until you hear the clip engage. An incomplete connection can cause errors or check engine lights, so confirm both connectors are fully seated before reinstalling the radio.
The front camera RCA cable coming from the grille connects to camera input one on the CS15. The power and ground wires for the BCAM13 connect through the optional harness — red for power, black for ground. The secondary RCA input and its associated harness are routed and zip-tied neatly for future use if the customer decides to add a second camera later.
The switch harness routes from the CS15 module along the driver's side dash, behind the instrument cluster panel, and down below the steering column. A panel removal tool makes pulling the sill panel back enough to tuck the wire through without full removal. The switch connector plugs into the back of one of the factory blank switches on the dash. The switch pops back into the factory slot and looks completely OEM.
Programming the CS15 Front Camera Interface
The CS15 has five programmable modes that control how the front camera system behaves. By default, only the front camera input is active, the display timer is set to 15 seconds, the auto turn-on function is off, the second camera input is off, and the backup camera push-to-view function is off.
Mode A controls the front camera display timer — how long the camera stays on screen after you press the button before returning to the factory screen. Options are 5, 10, 15, and 20 seconds, or timer disabled. Disabling the timer keeps the camera on screen until you press the button again.
Mode B controls automatic front camera activation. When turned on, the front camera activates automatically when the vehicle slows to a stop. This is useful for drivers who want constant awareness of front bumper distance at intersections and in parking lots. It's off by default because some drivers find it distracting.
Mode C activates the second camera input. When enabled, pressing the button twice displays the feed from the optional secondary camera. This is how you would activate a blind spot camera, hitch camera, or any other additional camera connected to the second RCA input.
Mode D is the backup camera push-to-view function. With this enabled, pressing the button while driving displays the factory backup camera on screen — useful when the rear view is blocked by cargo, when towing and wanting to check the hitch, or during any situation where a wider rear view is helpful. This mode is enabled in this install at the customer's request.
Mode E resets everything to factory defaults.
To enter a programming mode, press and hold the camera button while turning the car on and hold until the LED begins rapid flashing. Each mode is indicated by the number of LED flashes. Press the button to toggle the setting and press and hold to save. The full programming instructions are included in the CS15 manual, which covers each mode in detail.
How the Front Camera Works After Installation
With the install complete, the factory backup camera continues to operate exactly as normal — put the car in reverse and the backup camera appears as it always has. Nothing changes for the backup camera behavior.
From the factory home screen, pressing the blank switch button once displays the front camera through the factory head unit. The view shows the ground directly in front of the bumper with the full 160-degree fisheye field of view, giving a clear read on how much space remains between the truck and an obstacle. Pressing the button again cycles to the second camera input if one is connected. Pressing again returns to the factory screen. If the backup camera push-to-view mode is enabled, pressing the button while in reverse overrides the backup camera and shows the front camera instead.
For the Tacoma TRD specifically, the front camera is practical both as a daily parking aid and as a trail tool. Knowing where the front bumper is relative to rocks, ruts, and obstacles on the trail prevents costly front-end damage.
Toyota Tacoma Front Camera Without Replacing the Head Unit
The entire CS15 installation is reversible. The plug-and-play harnesses connect and disconnect without any permanent changes to the factory wiring. The drilled hole in the grille area for the camera cable is the only modification to the vehicle itself.
For 2014–2020 Toyota models, the CS6EP front camera interface is the equivalent solution for that generation. For Lexus applications, the CS11A covers select 2014–2025 Lexus models. All front camera interfaces pair with the BCAM13 or the BCAM11B depending on preference and mounting requirements.
