Tundra Factory Amp Replacement: Which Beat-Sonic Kit Fits
A Tundra factory amp replacement is the single cheapest way to make a stock truck stereo sound like it costs what you paid for the truck. The catch is that Beat-Sonic makes two kits that fit the same Tundra, and the product pages look almost identical at a glance. We just installed an ENA-3T3 plug and play amplifier in a Tundra, and the question that always follows the video is the same one: which one do I actually need?
Short answer: both the ENA-2T3 and the ENA-3T3 fit the 2020 to 2026 Toyota Tundra and both install without cutting a single factory wire. The ENA-3T3 adds a dedicated RCA subwoofer output and 50W x 4 channels. The ENA-2T3 has no subwoofer output and runs 45W x 4 channels. If a subwoofer is anywhere in your plans, buy the 3T3. If it is not, the 2T3 does the job.
Why the Factory Amp Runs Out of Room
Toyota builds head units to a budget, and the amplifier stage inside the radio is one of the first places that budget shows up. The speakers in your Tundra are usually fine. They are just never given a clean, strong signal to work with, so everything sounds flat and compressed once you turn it up. That is why the volume knob stops helping past a certain point and the sound just gets louder without getting better. We went deeper on that in our piece on why factory audio sounds weak at highway speeds.
Both Encore Alpha kits attack the same problem the same way. They strengthen and clean up the signal before it reaches your factory amplifier, using a FET op-amp input stage, low impedance capacitors and 70 micron copper. Your head unit, your steering wheel controls, your CarPlay and your speakers all stay exactly where they are. Both are made in Japan and both mount behind the dash on the shelf just to the right of the radio.
ENA-2T3 vs ENA-3T3: The Difference That Decides It
Strip away the marketing and there are two real differences.
Subwoofer output
The ENA-3T3 has a dedicated RCA subwoofer output. Adding a powered subwoofer later is one RCA cable and a remote turn on lead, both of which are already on the harness. The ENA-2T3 does not have that output. It has a high level RCA input instead, which is useful if you want to feed it from an external media player, but it is not a path to bass.
Output rating
ENA-3T3 is rated 50W x 4 channels at 4 ohms. ENA-2T3 is rated 45W x 4 channels. Both figures are peak, not RMS, which is standard across the industry. In practice that 5 watt gap is not what you will hear. The subwoofer output is.
What is identical
- 2020 to 2026 Toyota Tundra fitment, including the i-FORCE MAX hybrid
- Plug and play, no harness modification, no cutting
- 4 to 8 ohm speaker compatibility for aftermarket drivers
- Roughly a two hour install with basic hand tools
- Same 96 x 40 x 113.5 mm case, same 420 gram weight, same 15A fuse
Our advice after doing a lot of these: people who buy the 2T3 to save money and then decide six months later that they want bass end up buying twice. See both kits side by side in the Beat-Sonic amplifiers collection.
If You Have JBL, Read This Before Adding a Subwoofer
Here is the part that catches people. Both kits list Tundra compatibility with or without the factory JBL system. But on a JBL equipped Toyota, the factory radio volume does not control a subwoofer connected to the ENA-3T3 RCA outputs. Turn the radio to zero and that subwoofer keeps playing.
The fix is the ACS-T02 Powered Subwoofer Controller, which replaces the standard Encore Alpha harness and hands volume control back to the factory radio. You only need it if you have JBL and you are adding an aftermarket powered subwoofer. No JBL, or no subwoofer, and you can skip it. Your factory subwoofer is unaffected either way. We covered the background in why Toyota JBL systems have no subwoofer output.
Setting the Gains Once It Is In
The ENA-3T3 has two gain dials, one for front and one for rear, plus an auto sense switch. Get these right before you button the dash back up, because reaching them afterward means pulling the radio again.
Auto sense
Leave it set to speaker. That is how the amplifier knows to wake up when the factory radio turns on. Setting it anywhere else is the most common reason a fresh install seems dead.
Front and rear gain
On the Tundra we did in this video, we set the front gain down to roughly the 1 o'clock position and left the rear gain at the factory 50 percent center position. That balance keeps the dash speakers from getting shouty while the rears fill in behind you. Start there, listen to music you know well, and adjust in small moves.
The remote wire
The harness includes a separate remote turn on output for a future subwoofer or second amplifier. If you are not using it today, tape it off but leave the label on it. The next person in that dash, even if that person is you, will thank you.
What the Install Actually Involves
Unscrew the shift knob counterclockwise, lift the shifter panel, pull the center console trim and the climate control panel, then remove four 10 mm bolts and slide the head unit out. The harness plugs into two factory connectors behind the radio, a 28 pin gray one and a 10 pin black one, and passes them straight back through to the radio.
Take your time with that 28 pin connector. The pins on our harness side are thin and they mate against the factory contacts. Go in straight, push until it clicks, and do not trust how it looks. A bent pin shows up later as an error message or a dead backup camera. Wrap the amp in the included foam tape, slide it onto the shelf behind the radio, and reassemble. Frequently Asked Questions
Does the ENA-3T3 fit a Tundra with JBL?
Yes. The ENA-3T3 covers the 2020 to 2026 Toyota Tundra with or without JBL. If you have JBL and plan to add a powered subwoofer, add the ACS-T02 controller so the factory volume still works.
Do I need to replace my speakers or head unit?
No. Both kits keep your factory head unit, factory speakers, steering wheel controls, CarPlay and Android Auto working exactly as they do now.
Which kit should I buy if I might add a subwoofer later?
The ENA-3T3. It is the only one of the two with a dedicated RCA subwoofer output, so adding bass later is one cable instead of a second amplifier purchase.
How long does the install take?
About two hours for most owners following our video. No special tools are needed beyond a 10 mm socket and a plastic panel removal tool.
Where do I set the gain dials?
Keep auto sense on speaker. On the Tundra in this install we ran the front gain near the 1 o'clock position and left the rear at the factory 50 percent setting, then adjusted by ear.
Still Deciding? We Will Tell You Which One
Every kit we ship is stocked and tested at our shop in La Mirada, California, and business day orders leave the same day. If you want somebody to just tell you which amp your truck needs, message the Beat-Sonic team with your year, trim, and whether you have JBL, and say whether a subwoofer is in the plan. That last detail is usually the whole answer. Local installation is available in Southern California, and you can see what else fits your Tundra in our Toyota CarPlay and Android Auto collection.
