Toyota Tundra Wireless Charger: Add Dual Qi Charging
A Toyota Tundra wireless charger is one of those upgrades that sounds minor until two people get in the truck with two dead phones and one cable. Some Tundra trims left the factory with a single wireless pad. Plenty left with none at all. The NSV Dual Wireless Phone Charger replaces the factory tray with two 10W Qi pads, so the driver and the passenger each get one.
Short answer: the NSV is a plug and play dual wireless charger for the 2022 and newer Toyota Tundra and the 2023 and newer Toyota Sequoia. It drops into the factory tray location, powers off the existing 12 volt accessory connector through a pass through harness, and works whether or not your trim came with a factory wireless charger. The only tool you need is a plastic panel removal tool.
Two Pads Instead of One
The truck in this install had no factory wireless charging at all, so it went from zero pads to two in about an hour. That is the bigger jump, but the upgrade still makes sense on a trim that already has one. A single pad means somebody is waiting, and in a truck that gets used for work, waiting usually means the phone that needed charging is the one that ends up dead.
Both pads are 10W Qi, so any phone that supports Qi charging will sit on either side and charge. The housing is styled to match the factory interior, so from the driver seat it reads as trim rather than as an accessory bolted on top of the console.
How the NSV Gets Its Power
This is the part that keeps the install clean. Power comes from the factory 12 volt accessory connector at the top of the console, the same one feeding the upper tray. The included harness has a female end that plugs onto the truck side and a male end that plugs back into the factory connector you just unplugged. Nothing is spliced, tapped or cut. You are inserting the harness into an existing circuit and putting the factory plug back where it belongs.
The other end of that harness runs down the console to the two connectors on the charger. If you ever pull the unit out, the truck goes back to stock with no evidence you were there. That is the same philosophy behind the rest of our Toyota lineup, and it is why we keep writing about how you can add an amplifier without cutting factory wires.
Installing the NSV Dual Wireless Charger
Set aside an afternoon and work slowly around the clips. Almost every panel in this console is held by clips alone, and clips break when you pull against their direction instead of with it.
Step one: open up the console
- Pry up the upper tray and unplug its connector. Hold the connector body, never the wires.
- Push down firmly on the shift boot to release the shift knob surround, then reach underneath and slide the metal retaining clip sideways.
- Remove the two small side panels, pulling in the direction the clips face.
- Work the large surround panel loose from the rear corners first, then ease it forward.
- Raise the armrest and lift the main console trim, then disconnect the three connectors behind it.
Step two: swap the tray
- Release the two wire retaining clips holding the factory loom, using a hooked panel tool or a flathead.
- Lift out the factory pad or the plastic placeholder if your trim has no charger.
- Pop the red clips off the factory panel and transfer them onto the NSV housing.
- Route the power harness down from the upper connector. There is an opening on the passenger side you can push the wire through and catch from below.
- Plug the two side connectors into the charger and clip the unit into the factory location.
Step three: reassemble carefully
Two things bite people here. First, the two harness connectors will physically mate to each other if you force them, so use the harness length as your guide. The short one belongs at the lower position and the long one goes up top. Second, if you forget to reconnect the parking brake connector, you will get warning lights on the cluster and wonder why the truck is unhappy. Triple check every factory plug before you push panels home.
Start each panel at the bottom corner clip and confirm it is seated before you press the rest in. Browse our new products collection if you want to knock out more than one upgrade while the console is apart.
Reading the Button: Blue Means Standby
Each pad has its own lit button, and the color tells you what state it is in. Blue is standby. The pad has power but it is not transmitting. Press the button and it turns amber, which means the pad is live. Set your phone on top and it starts charging.
That standby state is deliberate. If you park a wallet, a badge or a set of keys on the console, you are not running an active charging coil under it all day. Press once when you want to charge, and both pads are independent so the passenger side can sit idle while yours is working.
Sequoia Owners: One Small Change
The NSV also fits the 2023 and newer Toyota Sequoia, because the console is the same design. There is one difference. The kit includes an optional foam bumper you can stick down to set the contact height for your phone, and on a Sequoia the panel space is slightly tighter, so you trim the edge of that bumper before you apply it. Clean the surface with an alcohol wipe first or the adhesive will let go in a hot cab.
Whether you need the bumper at all depends on your phone and case thickness. Test with the pad live before you commit the adhesive.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does the NSV fit a Tundra that already has a factory wireless charger?
Yes. It is compatible with trims with or without a factory wireless charger. On a trim that has one, you are going from a single pad to two.
What years does the NSV cover?
The 2022 and newer Toyota Tundra, including the i-FORCE MAX hybrid, and the 2023 and newer Toyota Sequoia.
Do I have to cut or splice anything?
No. The included harness plugs into the factory 12 volt accessory connector and passes the factory plug back through, so the install is fully reversible.
Why is the pad blue and not charging?
Blue is standby. Press the button on that pad and it changes to amber, which is the active charging state.
What tools do I need?
A plastic panel removal tool covers almost the entire job. A hooked panel tool or a small flathead helps with the two wire retaining clips, and an alcohol wipe preps the surface for the optional bumper.
