ENA-2T3 or ENA-3T3 for a 4Runner: Which One to Buy
If you are shopping for a 4Runner amp upgrade, the real question is not whether to add a Beat-Sonic Encore Alpha, it is which one: the ENA-2T3 or the ENA-3T3. Both plug in behind the factory radio, both keep your screen, steering wheel controls and CarPlay, and neither needs any cutting. This post is only about picking the right kit. The install steps live in two guides we link further down.
Quick answer: buy the ENA-2T3 ($299) if you want a cleaner, stronger factory system and no aftermarket subwoofer. Buy the ENA-3T3 ($349) if a powered sub is in your plans, because it adds a dedicated RCA subwoofer output. On a 4Runner with JBL, any aftermarket sub also needs the ACS-T02 ($159) to follow your volume knob.
What the ENA-2T3 and ENA-3T3 share on a 4Runner
Most of the decision is already made before you compare anything. The ENA-3T3 is listed for the 2020 to 2026 Toyota 4Runner, with or without JBL. The ENA-2T3 is also listed for the 2020 to 2026 Toyota 4Runner. Each kit uses a vehicle-specific harness, so you pick your 4Runner in the buy box and the right parts ship.
Both install in under two hours without special tools, and both leave the factory head unit and speakers where they are. If you later add aftermarket speakers, the product pages ask you to keep impedance between 4 and 8 ohms. If you are still deciding whether an amp should come before speakers at all, read speakers or amplifier: which upgrade comes first.
The one hardware difference that matters: subwoofer output
Here is the fork. The ENA-3T3 has a dedicated RCA subwoofer output, so adding a powered sub is one RCA cable away. The ENA-2T3 has an RCA jack too, but it is an input, meant for feeding in an external media player. It cannot send a signal out to a subwoofer.
The power numbers are close. The ENA-3T3 is rated 50W x 4 channels peak and the ENA-2T3 is rated 45W x 4 channels peak. The ENA-2T3 page lists about 23W RMS per channel. You are not choosing between a weak amp and a strong one, you are choosing whether the amp has a sub output.
The JBL catch: why the ACS-T02 exists
This is the part that surprises 4Runner owners with JBL. On a JBL Toyota, the factory volume does not control an aftermarket subwoofer connected to the ENA-3T3 RCA output. The sub keeps playing even when the radio is at volume 0. A factory-installed JBL subwoofer is not affected, so this only applies when you add your own.
The ACS-T02 Powered Subwoofer Controller fixes it. It replaces the standard ENA harness, converts the high-level speaker signal to RCA, ties the RCA level to the factory volume and steering wheel buttons, and provides a remote turn-on output for your sub amp. The ACS-T02 page lists JBL equipped 2020 to 2026 Toyota 4Runner models, for use with an Encore Alpha ENA series amplifier. It is JBL only and it is not a standalone product. Our explainer on why Toyota JBL systems have no subwoofer output goes deeper.
On a 4Runner without JBL there is no catch. Per the ENA-3T3 page, volume syncs normally with the factory radio, and you do not need the ACS-T02.
Which kit should you buy? A simple decision tree
No subwoofer planned: ENA-2T3
If your goal is cleaner mids, tighter bass from the factory speakers and more headroom at highway volume, the ENA-2T3 does that for $299. You are not paying for an output you will never use.
Subwoofer planned on a JBL 4Runner: add the ACS-T02
The ACS-T02 is on your shopping list either way, because without it the sub ignores your volume knob. Pairing it with the ENA-3T3 is the setup the ENA-3T3 page describes. The ACS-T02 page says it also works with the ENA-2T3. That makes the ENA-3T3 the straightforward pick when the sub is a sure thing, since it carries the dedicated sub output on its own page. Email us if you want a second opinion.
Subwoofer planned on a non-JBL 4Runner: ENA-3T3
This is the cleanest case. The ENA-3T3 gives you the sub output, volume syncs with the factory radio, and the ACS-T02 stays out of the order.
Sub maybe later: lean ENA-3T3
Buying the output now costs you $50. Swapping amps later means a second teardown of the dash. If there is a real chance you will add bass, that math favors the ENA-3T3.
The price gap, in plain numbers
On the product pages today, the ENA-2T3 is $299 and the ENA-3T3 is $349. The gap is $50. The ACS-T02 is $159. For a JBL 4Runner with an aftermarket sub, that puts the amp plus controller at $458 with the ENA-2T3 or $508 with the ENA-3T3, before the subwoofer itself.
So the $50 buys you the dedicated RCA subwoofer output and a few more rated watts. If you will never add a sub, that is money you do not need to spend. If you will, it is cheap insurance. Prices can change, so confirm on the product page when you order.

FAQ
Does the ENA-2T3 fit a 4Runner with JBL?
The ENA-2T3 is listed for the 2020 to 2026 Toyota 4Runner, and the ACS-T02 page lists JBL equipped 2020 to 2026 4Runners for use with an Encore Alpha ENA series amplifier. The ENA-2T3 page also says JBL compatibility varies by model, so email info@beatsonicusa.com with your year, trim and audio system if you want a human to confirm before you order.
What is the real difference between the ENA-2T3 and the ENA-3T3?
The ENA-3T3 adds a dedicated RCA subwoofer output and is rated 50W x 4 peak. The ENA-2T3 is rated 45W x 4 peak and its RCA jack is an input, so it has no subwoofer output. Both keep your factory head unit, steering wheel controls and CarPlay, and both are listed for the 2020 to 2026 Toyota 4Runner. The ENA-2T3 is $299 and the ENA-3T3 is $349 on the product pages today.
Do I need the ACS-T02 on a JBL 4Runner?
Only if you are adding an aftermarket powered subwoofer. On a Toyota with JBL, the factory volume does not control a sub connected to the ENA-3T3 RCA output, and the sub keeps playing even at volume 0. The ACS-T02 restores volume tracking. If you are not adding a sub, you do not need it.
Can I run a powered subwoofer from the ENA-2T3?
Not from its RCA jack, because that jack is an input. The ACS-T02 page says the ACS-T02 works with the ENA-2T3 or the ENA-3T3 on Toyota JBL vehicles and supplies a volume-tracked RCA output and a remote turn-on lead. If a sub is certain, ask us which pairing we would build for your truck.
If my 4Runner has a factory JBL subwoofer, which amp should I buy?
Per the ENA-3T3 page, the factory-installed subwoofer is not affected either way. If you are not adding a second, aftermarket sub, the ENA-2T3 covers the job for less money. Buy the ENA-3T3 when you want a dedicated sub output on the amp.
Which install guide should I follow after I choose?
For the ENA-3T3, follow our 2025 4Runner install guide. For the ENA-2T3, follow our 4Runner install walkthrough. Both are linked in the section above, and this post deliberately skips the step-by-step.
