GR Corolla Sound Deadening: DMS-T334 Front Door Install
GR Corolla sound deadening is the upgrade to do before you spend a dollar on speakers. The Corolla Hatchback and GR Corolla front doors are thin, they let road noise straight in, and the speaker sound bounces around inside the door instead of reaching you. We installed the Beat-Sonic DMS-T334 sound deadening kit for the Corolla Hatchback and GR Corolla in both front doors and recorded the difference.
Short answer: the DMS-T334 is a pre-cut door kit for the 2020+ Corolla Sedan, 2019+ Corolla Hatchback and 2023+ GR Corolla. It seals the door cavity behind the door card, adds foam around and behind the speaker, and adds TOON damping pads to the door metal. Installation takes hand tools, no cutting, and no wiring.
Why the Corolla Needs GR Corolla Sound Deadening First
Eric opened the video by calling these doors a tin can, and anyone who has driven a GR Corolla on the freeway knows why. Thin factory door skins vibrate, outside noise comes through them, and your speakers lose bass to the open cavity behind them. Sound waves from the back of the cone bounce off the metal and cancel some of what the front of the cone produces.
That is why a speaker upgrade alone often disappoints. A new speaker in an untreated door still fights the same cavity. Fix the door first and the factory speakers you already own get deeper bass, cleaner mids and better detail. We explain the general principle in our post on sound deadening car doors to stop speaker rattle.
What Comes in the DMS-T334 Kit
- 2 pre-cut air baffle mats shaped for the front door cards
- 2 speaker ring mats that sit on the face of the speaker
- 2 speaker back absorbing mats that sit behind the speaker
- TOON vibration damping sheets for the door metal
- A roller tool for pressing the damping sheets down
- Spare upholstery clips for the ones that break on removal
- A flame retardancy test certificate
The baffle mats are made from NBR sponge, which handles soundproofing and sound absorption without adding much weight. The whole kit weighs about 7.28 pounds. All the openings are already cut, so you never punch a hole or trim a piece. You can see every acoustic part we make in the sound deadening collection.
Driver's Door Install, Step by Step
1. Remove the door panel
Pop off the small plastic piece behind the door handle and remove the Phillips screw behind it. Pry out the switch panel with a plastic trim tool and unplug its connectors. Remove the next trim piece and its Phillips screw. There is one more Phillips screw that is easy to miss, so check before you pull. Then work a wide plastic panel tool around the edge and lift the door card off.
Use plastic tools only. A metal pry tool will mark your interior.
2. Unhook the door lock cables
Two cables connect the door card to the latch. Note the order before you unclip them. In our car the white one went on top and the green one on the bottom.
3. Fit the air baffle to the door card
Lay the door card face down and line up the pre-cut mat. It matches the GR Corolla card exactly. You do not need to peel all the adhesive. Peel it around the outer edge and the center so the mat holds its position, then press it in. The extra square piece goes on top where the kit shows.
4. Add the speaker foam
Remove the speaker with its three bolts (10mm, or a Phillips works too). The ring mat goes on the face of the speaker and the absorbing mat goes behind it, inside the door. Our tip from the video: do the install with the window rolled up. It gives you more room behind the speaker and makes placement easier.
5. Apply the TOON damping pads
Reach inside and stick the pads to the door metal, working from the back corner toward the front. Then use the included roller on every pad so it bonds fully to the metal. Pads that are only pressed by hand can lift over time.
6. Reinstall everything
Refit the speaker, reconnect the lock cables in the right order, plug in the switch panel, and push the door card back onto its clips. If a clip breaks, the kit includes spares.
Passenger Door and the Road Noise Test
Ben handled the passenger door with the exact same steps, so the video speeds through it. After both doors were done, the team ran a road noise test and a knock test on the door skin. Listen to the clip in the video with headphones and you will hear the change in the cabin and the more solid sound when the door is tapped.
Curious how this kind of treatment holds up in another small Toyota? We ran a similar test in GR86 and BRZ road noise testing.
Which Corolla Models Does It Fit?
Fitment is model specific, so here is the exact list. The DMS-T334 fits:
- 2020 and newer Toyota Corolla Sedan
- 2019 and newer Toyota Corolla Hatchback
- 2023 and newer Toyota GR Corolla
It does not fit the Corolla Cross or earlier Corolla generations. Their door cavities are shaped differently. In the video the team mentions non-GR Corollas too; that means the Corolla Hatchback, which shares the same front door cards.
One more thing to know before you open the box: the kit is not returnable once it has been used or the adhesive backing has been peeled. Confirm your model first, and email info@beatsonicusa.com if you are not sure.
What to Pair With It Next
Deadening gives your speakers a solid foundation. Once that is done, more clean power is the natural next step. Browse our plug-and-play amplifier kits to see what fits your car, or read about adding bass with a hidden sub in our GR Corolla subwoofer install. If you also want a better screen experience, our stereo interface kits and the full Beat-Sonic catalog are a good place to start.
FAQ
Does the DMS-T334 fit the Corolla Sedan?
Yes. The DMS-T334 is confirmed for the 2020+ Corolla Sedan, 2019+ Corolla Hatchback and 2023+ GR Corolla front doors. It does not fit the Corolla Cross or earlier generations.
Do I need to replace my factory speakers?
No. The kit improves the speakers you already have by sealing the door cavity and cutting vibration. It also gives an aftermarket speaker a better place to work if you upgrade later.
Do I need to cut or modify anything?
No. Every piece is pre-cut, and the factory door panel, waterproofing and wiring are left untouched. You need plastic trim tools, a Phillips screwdriver and a 10mm socket.
How much weight does the kit add?
The complete DMS-T334 kit weighs about 7.28 pounds, or 3.3 kilograms, split across both front doors.
Can I return it after installing?
No. The DMS-T334 is not returnable once it has been used or once the adhesive backing has been peeled off, so confirm your model before you start.
