2020-2023 Toyota Tacoma Upgrade Guide: Audio, Cameras, Throttle
The 2020-2023 Toyota Tacoma upgrades that change how the truck feels every day are not bolted to the outside. They live inside the cab: a stereo with actual authority, a subwoofer that fills the space, a camera that shows what the tall hood hides, and a pedal that answers the moment you press it. Every kit in this guide plugs into the factory connectors on your 3rd gen Tacoma. Nothing gets cut, and everything can come back out.
We are Beat-Sonic USA, the American arm of Beat-Sonic Japan, and we have served the car community since 2007. Everything we sell is designed and engineered in Japan and US, built for a specific vehicle, and connected with OEM style plugs instead of spliced wires. We also film an install video for nearly every product on our YouTube channel, so you can watch the entire job on a truck like yours before you spend a dollar.
Fix the thin factory sound: your Tacoma amplifier options
Bring a 2020-2023 Tacoma into our shop and we can usually predict the complaint before you say it. The sound is thin, the bass vanishes at highway speed, and the volume knob runs out before the music gets loud. That last one catches owners off guard. Even maxed out, the factory system never delivers real volume, JBL package or not, because it pushes low power through very conservative tuning. We wrote up the full diagnosis in why Toyota JBL audio sounds bad and how to fix it.
Swapping speakers alone will not solve it, because the weak link is the signal feeding them. A Tacoma amplifier kit attacks the real bottleneck while keeping your factory head unit, screen, and steering wheel controls:
- ENX-T315 DSP amplifier kit for the 2020-2023 Tacoma without JBL. It runs on our Encore X platform, which adds DSP you tune with our desktop software on a Windows PC over the included USB cable (there is no Mac version and no phone app). Better yet, each kit ships with an in-house tune that our tuning expert built specifically for this truck, so it sounds dialed in from the first song. Most owners never touch the software at all.
- ENA-3T3 plug and play amplifier kit for the 2018-2026 Toyota and Lexus family, compatible with both JBL and non JBL systems, with a dedicated subwoofer output for the next section.
- ENA-2T3 plug and play amplifier kit, the same clean integration without the subwoofer output, also compatible with both JBL and non JBL systems.
The harness is the same for JBL and non JBL trucks, but harnesses can differ by model year and trim, so confirm your exact year and trim on each product page before ordering. The full lineup lives in our amplifiers collection if you want to compare.
Two paths to a real Tacoma subwoofer
Bass is the single biggest hole in the Tacoma cabin, and you do not need to touch the head unit to fill it. Which path you take depends on which system your truck left the factory with.
Non JBL trucks: the ENA-3T3 is the shortest route to a Tacoma subwoofer. Its dedicated subwoofer output hands a powered sub a clean, properly managed signal straight from the plug and play kit. One box solves the amplifier problem and the bass problem together.
JBL trucks: pair the ENA-2T3 with our ACS-T02 powered subwoofer controller. The ACS-T02 gives an active subwoofer proper level control on the JBL system, so the sub tracks the volume knob the way a factory sub would instead of doing its own thing at low volume. If you have ever wondered why an added sub keeps thumping with the volume at zero, our article on fixing a subwoofer that stays on at volume 0 explains exactly what is happening and how the ACS-T02 cures it.
There is a budget alternative for JBL trucks: the ENA-3T3 works on the JBL system too, and you can hang a powered subwoofer off its dedicated output. The tradeoff is that the sub's volume will not track the radio's volume knob. You adjust it with the separate volume knob included with most powered subwoofers, or with an inline bass knob if yours does not have one. If that does not bother you, the ENA-3T3 alone is the cheaper way in.
One more detail before you slide a sub under the seat: our EAZ-C02 power seat cable harness works on trucks with power seats only, and a heated seat is not the same as a power seat. It taps constant power under the seat to feed an active subwoofer rated under 260W RMS, splice free.
Put a Tacoma front camera on the factory screen
The 3rd gen Tacoma hood is high and flat, and it swallows everything within a few feet of the front bumper. Parking blocks, low curbs, a trailer tongue, the rock you were trying to crawl over: all invisible from the driver seat. A Tacoma front camera puts that blind zone on the screen you already have.
The setup is two parts. The CS10B front camera interface works with select 2018-2024 Toyota models and feeds the image into the factory display, viewable on demand at the press of a button. For the camera itself, use our BCAM13 wide angle front camera or the BCAM11B. The two are interchangeable, so pick either and mount it low in the grille. Browse the rest of the options in our front cameras collection.
We documented this exact combination on a truck like yours in our BCAM13 front camera install on a 2023 Toyota Tacoma, from grille mounting to the finished on screen image.
ShiftPower: cure the throttle hesitation
Press the pedal in a stock Tacoma and there is a beat of nothing before the truck moves. That pause is factory throttle mapping, not the engine. The ShiftPower SP09 and ShiftPower SP07 both plug in at the accelerator pedal connector in minutes and give you multiple drive modes. Check your model year on each product page to see which unit your truck takes.
We will be straight with you about what a throttle controller does. It does not add engine power. The sharper modes remap the pedal signal so the engine responds to your foot without the factory hesitation, which transforms how the truck feels in traffic and on merges. In eco mode it goes the other way, softening the pedal mapping, and that does help improve fuel economy for many drivers who tend to be heavy on the throttle. The whole range is in our ShiftPower collection.
2020-2023 Toyota Tacoma upgrades: quick reference
This is the same shortlist we give owners at the counter. Start wherever the truck annoys you most. For most people that is the stereo, but every row stands on its own and none of them conflict with the others.

Frequently asked questions
My Tacoma has JBL. Which kit should I buy?
The ENA-3T3 and ENA-2T3 both work with JBL and non JBL systems across the 2018-2026 Toyota family, so choose by feature: ENA-3T3 if you want the subwoofer output, ENA-2T3 if you do not. If you have JBL and want a powered subwoofer, pair the ENA-2T3 with the ACS-T02 controller for proper level control. If you keep the factory subwoofer instead, the ENA-2T3 alone already powers it through the factory harness, so nothing extra is needed. The ENX-T315 is only for 2020-2023 Tacomas without JBL. Confirm your trim on the product page or contact us and we will match it.
Do I keep my factory screen and steering wheel controls?
Yes. Every kit here connects behind the factory head unit with OEM style connectors, so your screen, backup camera, steering wheel buttons, and factory features all keep working. Unplug the kit and the truck is stock again.
How hard is the front camera install for a DIYer?
We rate it moderate. You mount the camera in the grille, route one cable through the firewall, and connect the CS10B interface behind the screen with plug in connectors. Basic hand tools handle it, and our BCAM13 install article on a 2023 Tacoma plus the video on our YouTube channel walk through every step.
Will ShiftPower save me fuel?
In eco mode, it can. Eco mode softens the pedal mapping, which does help improve fuel economy for many drivers, especially anyone with a heavy right foot. The sharper modes are about removing hesitation, not adding power. No throttle controller adds engine power, and we would rather tell you that up front.
How long does each install take?
ShiftPower plugs in at the pedal in roughly 15 minutes. Amplifier, subwoofer, and front camera installs usually run a few hours each for a DIYer with basic hand tools. Our La Mirada facility installs by appointment, Monday through Friday, and most installs are finished the same day they are booked.
