Lexus Screen Upgrade Preview: 10.25 Inch CarPlay Display for 2014-2016 Lexus IS 250 300 350 200t
The Lexus screen upgrade we are previewing in this video brings a 10.25 inch touchscreen with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto into older Lexus IS models that shipped with a small factory display and no smartphone integration. We built this around a clean OEM appearance, so the new screen looks like it came from the Lexus factory rather than a bolt-on aftermarket head unit. Our team is still finishing development, and this video is your first real look at how it behaves in the car.
Why Older Lexus IS Owners Have Been Stuck With a Dated Cabin
The styling on these Lexus IS cars still holds up. The interior materials are excellent, the seats are comfortable, and the chassis feels every bit as composed as the day it left the showroom. The one thing that did not age well is the head unit. The factory screen is small, the graphics look ancient next to a modern phone, and there is no CarPlay or Android Auto. Owners who love their car end up holding their phone in their lap just to see a map. That is the gap we built the LSC-IR2 to close, and you can keep an eye on our newest car audio releases while development wraps up.
What the LSC-IR2 10.25 Inch Display Brings to the Dashboard
This Lexus CarPlay unit replaces the factory screen with a 10.25 inch high resolution touchscreen that sits flush in the dash. It powers up with our welcome screen the moment the car starts, then jumps straight to CarPlay once the phone connects wirelessly. The transition is fast. We are not talking about a thirty second wait while the head unit boots. The whole point of this build is to feel factory smooth, and that starts with how quickly it comes alive.
Wireless CarPlay and Wireless Android Auto Out of the Box
Both Apple and Android users get the same wireless experience. Pair the phone once, and every drive after that the screen connects on its own. iPhone users land on the CarPlay home screen automatically. Android phones land on Android Auto the same way. No cable, no dock, no fiddling with the head unit each time you get in.
Touchscreen Plus Factory Mouse Controller
The original Lexus joystick controller still works. You can reach forward and tap the screen, or leave your hand on the center console and use the mouse pointer exactly the way Lexus designed it. The pointer renders as a soft pink circle that matches the factory look, and the click action on the controller behaves the same as a tap. Both inputs run at the same time, so passengers can poke at the screen while the driver navigates with the joystick.
What Stays Stock When You Install the LSC-IR2
One of the rules we set for ourselves on this build was that nothing factory should break. The steering wheel volume controls keep working, including the new on-screen volume bar that appears when you turn the knob. Track up and track down on the wheel scroll through your CarPlay music. The pickup and hang up buttons answer and end calls. The menu button calls Siri. Backup camera output also passes through untouched, so dropping into reverse brings up the factory rear view, and the screen returns to CarPlay the moment you shift back to drive. Plug and play installs like this are exactly what our CarPlay and Android Auto integration kits are built around.
Audio Routing and the New Smart Zoom CarPlay Feature
Audio still flows through the car's original Bluetooth stack by default, which keeps the factory sound system tuning intact. If you want a cleaner signal, plug the phone into the factory USB port and CarPlay will route audio over the wired connection for slightly better fidelity. We also exposed the new Apple CarPlay smart zoom setting through the display menu. Turning smart zoom on shrinks the icons and fits more apps on one page. We leave it off in our demo car because the larger touch targets are easier to use on the move, but it is there if you want it. For owners who want to pair this with better speakers later, our plug and play car amplifier kits drop in without cutting a single factory wire.
Backup Camera, USB Media, and AirPlay Mirroring
The factory backup camera triggers automatically when you shift into reverse. The display switches to the camera feed, then back to CarPlay or Android Auto when you shift out. We also exposed a USB input on the unit so you can plug in a thumb drive loaded with music or video files and play them directly. AirPlay phone mirroring is built in as well, which is handy for showing photos or apps that CarPlay does not natively support. If you also want to add a forward facing camera to match, our front and rear camera integration kits for Toyota and Lexus work alongside the new screen.
Where the LSC-IR2 Sits in Our Product Roadmap
This is a prototype preview. We are almost finished with development on the Lexus IS application, and once it is ready for production we will open the waitlist and announce launch dates. After the IS, we plan to bring the same screen replacement platform to every vehicle that already runs our S-Connect series. That includes a wide list of Lexus and Toyota models. If you want first notice when this Lexus screen upgrade ships, email us through the site and we will add you to the waitlist. You can also follow the full Beat-Sonic product catalog to see what else is in the pipeline.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does the Beat-Sonic LSC-IR2 keep the factory Lexus mouse controller working?
Yes, the original joystick controller stays fully functional after the LSC-IR2 is installed. You can move the on-screen pointer, click to select, and use it to navigate CarPlay or Android Auto exactly the way you would with the factory head unit. Touchscreen input works at the same time, so you can choose either method on any drive.
Will the steering wheel buttons still control music and phone calls on my older Lexus IS?
Yes, volume up and down, track forward and back, the pickup and hang up call buttons, and the menu button for Siri all continue to work through the factory steering wheel. The LSC-IR2 reads the original CAN bus signals so nothing has to be reprogrammed or remapped after install.
Do I lose my factory backup camera with the LSC-IR2 Lexus screen upgrade?
No, the factory backup camera is fully supported. When you shift into reverse, the new 10.25 inch screen automatically shows the original camera feed. Shifting out of reverse returns the display to CarPlay or Android Auto on its own.
Is the LSC-IR2 available to buy right now?
The LSC-IR2 is not yet available for purchase. The unit shown in this video is a development prototype. We are finalizing the design and expect to open a waitlist before general release. Email Beat-Sonic USA through the contact page if you want to be notified when the Lexus IS application ships, and watch our new product collection for the launch announcement.
Will Beat-Sonic build this screen upgrade for other Lexus and Toyota models?
Yes, the plan is to bring this same screen replacement platform to every vehicle we already cover with the S-Connect product line. That includes additional Lexus IS, GS, RX, and Toyota applications. We will release them one platform at a time and post updates as each version is finalized.
