First impressions

I bought this product (QBF13) along with the QBA47 Adjustable Mobile Holder. I finally had a chance to install it in my FR-S several days ago. Beat-Sonic sent the package via UPS and it arrived 2 days after I ordered it. I was pleasantly surprised because I thought it would take far longer. Installation of this mount only took about 10 minutes. That hardest part was figuring out how to remove the panel around the head unit. The instructions suggest using your fingers to apply pressure to the bottom corners and pull to remove. Don't waste your time trying; you may break the panel trying to remove it. I finally had to grab a straight screwdriver and gently put it in small gaps that are available under each bottom corner of the panel and give the driver a small twist to pop out each bottom corner clip. Once both sides were popped out, the rest of the panel came out easy. Using this method you DO need to be careful you don’t mar the finish of the head unit panel or the console face. The passenger side panel came off with no trouble at all, no tools needed. The version of the side panel on my car did not have the tab so there was no 'cutting' required on my part. The mount slid on in place with no effort, the side panel popped back into place easily and the head unit panel went back on with no trouble. My initial thoughts though when I slid the mount on the side panel was that it was fairly 'loose' and that the mount, the phone holder and the phone would wobble all over the place. But once the dash panels are reinstalled, friction holds the mount nice and tight on the dash. I have to admit this setup makes a nice clean install for mounting a phone in this car as there are not many alternative options for mounting a phone or tablet. I have to admit, the 'L' bracket design has me a bit concerned though. The ball and socket used on this mount is made of plastic and the end with the 'L' seems a bit too small to hold up for any significant length of time in a car, especially with the constant vibration that occurs in vehicles. If the design was a bit larger I would have more faith in it. Having it milled out of aluminum would be a better option. I have a friend with a CNC and I may have him mill me one out of aluminum just for the fun of it. The QBA47 is ok for what it needs to do, a little bulky for my taste but it works and still makes for a fairly clean setup. Again, the connection between it and the QBF13 seems a bit iffy and could be a source of several failures. You slide the phone holder onto the 'L' bracket on the mount and it's just held in place via pressure. It doesn’t' seem to click into place or anything, something I would expect. Vibration from driving relieves that pressure fit to some extent so orienting your phone in landscape mode versus portrait mode could result in your phone and the phone holder sliding off the mount and onto your center console. Overall I would rate this product pretty good as it does make for a nice clean install and the ability to swap out different holders based upon the different devices you may have is nice, but time will tell how well it works in the long term.

Good

Bit pricey for a mount (yes, it's not a holder. you need to get a holder separately), but the built quality and the look is great.
I have been using it for awhile and it has not give me any issues.

Is it just another aftermarket phone mounting kit?

There are hundreds of different phone mounting kits and holders out there, and most of them are garbage.
I don't have time or money to try all of them, that's why I go with the car specific product, although it's very difficult to find them.
Luckily, I found the QBF13 during the long search and I gave this a try.
It wasn't cheap, but considering the fact that it's made in Japan and car specific item, I didn't hesitate buying it.
The moment of truth came. I received the item very quickly (very-very quickly), and installed the item according to the installation instruction (yes, I'm one of those type of person who actually reads the instruction before installing or operating a new gadget).
Installation took me about 10~15 min (including reading of the instruction), and I have to say that I'm pretty impressed by how easy it was to install, how sturdy and convenient the product is.
I wish there are more companies like the Beat Sonic who actually makes car specific items. It just makes my life whole lot better.

Piece of cake

When I got the instructions, I was a little scared - you might have to cut off this tab, this little ridge, take the panel off around the head unit.
But my experience was much more like what is shown in the installation video- pop off the side panel, slip the product on, put the panel back and done. 5 minutes.
No alterations, no sticky gunk on my new baby, nothing blocking the air vents or CD slots and no suction cup that's gonna fall off. A little pricey, but the perfect solution.
