Lexus SC / Re: Support on wiring instructions
« Last post by Wade_Tim on September 05, 2012, 07:07:51 PM »
No joy, Eric.  I have volume button and fader control with steering wheel controls, but Mode button does not seem to do anything, whether stopped with parking brake on or moving (I did install the video in motion option).  There is no change in the OEM screen when I press the Mode.  Is it perhaps not okay to use a standard Radio Shack audio cable to carry the video signal from the new head unit?  Seems like there is some setting out of whack menu wise rather than one of the RCA connection jacks, which I taped with electrical tape to make sure they wouldn't come apart or short out when pushed back into the dash.  Any way to test them?  Thanks very much for your help.  Tim

Hi Tim,

I apologize for the late response.

To go to the video input option on the OEM screen, you must press the menu button on the steering wheel controls. This has to be done while the vehicle is stopped and the parking brake on. However, if you engaged the video in motion, the top screen should display the video input even when the vehicle is moving and without the parking brake on.

Please let me know if you have additional questions.

Thanks,

Eric

Hi again, Eric.  I am trying to get my new head unit (JVC KWNT800) to display to the OEM screen on the SC430 simultaneously (same image above and below, though I realize the touch screen will remain with the JVC).   This is because the JVC has glare problems from the white leather seats down at the gearshift level, while the OEM screen is at the top of the dash so it does not get the reflections as much.  I have attached the JVC's "video out" RCA jack to the Aux RCA jack coming from the OEM screen wiring using a standard 3 ft audio cable, but I can't find any option in the Lexus menus to go to the Aux input for display.    Any ideas what I am doing wrong?  Thanks, Tim

Dear Wade,

I apologize for the late response.

As mentioned in the email, you may leave the blue remote antenna connection disconnected from the aftermarket head unit. Please let me know if you have additional questions.

Thanks,

Eric

Hi Eric, it's a 2004 with Mark Levinson sys OEM.  I think I solved the second question, on the Appendix C.  I found the proper colored wires on the female 22-pin connector (not the one attached to the back of the MFD), with White/red stripe to pin 4 and Red/black stripe to pin 15.  So I cut White/red stripe from in back of that connector and connected to SPD wire from my new head unit (JVC's GPS requires this to avoid getting error message on no speed sensor), and cut the Red/black stripe at pin 15.  Then I cut the red wire from the male connector slot 15 (PKB) and grounded it to the common ground on frame.  Hope that will work.  But still need clarification on blue remote amp lead connex.

Dear Wade, thank you for your inquiry.

Please provide me the year of your SC430 so that I can pull out information specific to that year.

Thanks!

Eric

I am installing my just received MVA-12L with a JVC head unit (GPS) and following instruction sheet. On blue antenna pwr lead and blue Amp remote lead, your instructions show separate leads, but my kit came with MVA leads joined into one connector (both are blue/silver dashes).  Where do I attach the blue/white lead for head unit Amp remote?  all four into one connector? Also, your Appendix C schematic indicates  SPD as White/Red, but on my Lexus the #4 lead is yellow (normally a power lead?) and the  PKB #15 is only red, not Red/Black.  Do I go ahead and ground the #15 red wire to chassis?  do I still cut the #4 position yellow wire?

BRZ / Beat-Sonic Shark Fin Antennas for the 2013 Subaru BRZ models

The Subaru BRZ antenna base is Larger than the antenna base equipped on the Scion FR-S as shown here:

Subaru BRZ antenna Base

Scion FR-S antenna Base

As such, the FDA43 shark fin antenna models will not be compatible to the Subaru BRZ, and only be compatible to the Scion FR-S.

So, what options are available for BRZ Owners?
The color code will not be an exact match, however the colors will be close enough for you to not tell the difference unless you look really hard to find that there is a difference when compared side by side.
Further, say that the color of the antenna is an exact match to the vehicle's color side by side from the same light angle. Since the antenna is shaped differently than the rest of the body lines of the vehicle, the angle that the light reflects on the antenna will make the color look a little different anyhow. I can show you what I mean to the locals who is free to stop by to compare the antenna color vs the vehicle's color.
The above two paragraphs applies to the following colors for the BRZ:

Ultramarine (Blue) - E8H
- Color Comparison, E8H(smaller) vs 8TS(larger): http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7227/7298601024_6e6ba7bfcd_b.jpg
- The FDA31-8TS is slightly lighter than FDA43-E8H. Both has the sparkle in the paint.

Firestorm (Red) - C7P
- Color Comparison, C7P(smaller) vs 3R3(larger):http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7241/7298600162_16d9f05130_b.jpg
- FDA31-3R3 is slightly lighter and has sparkle compared to FDA43-C7P.

Sterling Silver Metallic - D6S
- Color Comparison, D6S(smaller) vs 1F7(larger):http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7243/7298599232_a9e63116d9_b.jpg
- FDA31-1F7 is slightly lighter. Both have sparkle.

Crystal Black Silica - D4S
- Color Comparison, D4S(smaller) vs 202(larger):http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8025/7298604514_cc43d0bda6_b.jpg
- FDA31-202 and FDA43-D4S Color looks exactly the same except FDA31-202 does not have sparkly like the FDA43-D4S.

Satin White Pearl - 37J
- Color Comparison, 37J(smaller) vs 070(larger):http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8164/7298601724_d75ffa899e_b.jpg

- FDA31-070 is slightly lighter. Both has sparkle.

Dark Grey Metallic - 61K
- Color Comparison, 61K(left side) vs 1G3(right side) vs 8V1 (middle) http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8028/7298605592_cb6300e71b_b.jpg
- 61K vs Black (202) http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8167/7298606424_22b5a45d59_b.jpg
- 61K vs Carbon Fiber http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7083/7298607572_7991758da1_b.jpg
- 61K vs 1G3 http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7215/7298609754_e00a02c871_b.jpg
- 61K vs 8V1 http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7228/7298608640_9fb83cde41_b.jpg
- Unfortunately, in our opinion the colors do not match closely enough to any of the other colors we have to be used as a replacement. The closest match is the 1G3. Or you may just go carbon fiber or black. If we can get enough interest in this color (20 people). We can custom order the color combination with the FDA31 Style Antenna. We currently have 3 BRZ participants interested in this color.

World Rally Blue Pearl - 42C

- 42C vs Black -202 http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7212/7298612754_55c6e6d312_b.jpg
- Color will be available at the end of August 2012!

So, as of now, if the BRZ members decide to proceed, we will send out the similar colors in the FDA31 series antenna.
